Plastic Polypropylene honeycomb is the ideal component for any lightweight assembly. It provides high stability at a low weight and is resistant to both media and corrosion. 

The basic raw material for producing the honeycomb is polypropylene, a thermoplastic, recyclable material from the polyolefin group. It is ideally suited to being a semi-finished product that is primarily used to produce sandwich composite components. 

As a result of its thermoplastic properties, plastic honeycomb can be shaped thermally and can be cut to the desired shape using conventional tools. 

Corex Honeycomb provided polypropylene honeycomb for an installation, ‘Sensing Spaces’ at the Royal Academy of Art, London, ( see image to the left). Designed by architect Diébédo Francis Kéré, a tunnel was created from the honeycomb due to its everyday industrial nature, and its visual and acoustic properties.

In line with the further industrial or commercial application, Corex Honeycomb supply honeycomb mats in clad and unclad designs. Clad honeycomb mats contain a fleece layer on both sides of the surface that is connected thermally to the polypropylene honeycomb. This fleece is used as the adhesive layer and during further processing improves the bonding process to any skin. 

In laminating technology, e.g. for fibre-reinforced technology, it is also possible to insert a polypropylene sheet between the honeycomb and the fleece so that the liquid resin does not fill the hollow spaces in the honeycomb.
